Beaverton-Hillsdale 6/28/2011 6-10 PM

On 6/28/2011 from approximately 6:30 to 10 PM the only sign for photo radar was the one located at US Bank at Laurelwood & Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy. This is one that is permanently installed as you enter the city limits of Beaverton.

The van was located at the Miller paint store. The front of the van was parked at the sign post for the Miller store sign.  This is important because we are looking at a VERY close measurement here. The rangefinder told me that from the warning sign to the Miller sign was 402 yards. That would put the back of the van at maybe just under 400 yards. Here are the pics of the sign location and where the van was parked. If you got a ticket here tonight (pleased to say none while I was out with the sign), take these pictures, along with the measurements with you to court. It may come down to inches.

I also went to Google earth to get a measurement there. Google earth’s measuring tool comes up with just over 400 yards (pic below). This is certainly going to be a photo finish. Either this it is a complete coincidence that this particular spot is ALMOST 400 yards or, they know exactly how far away the sign is. My money would be on the fact that they know exactly how far away that sign is. So, you make the call. Is this under 400 yards or over? If it is over 400 yards then this enforcement point would not be in compliance with ORS 810.438(b) Let me know how you would call it. Leave a comment below.

I’m going to go ahead and file this one under non-compliance; even though it may be close. If you intend on fighting this one in court, be sure to take pictures & measurements.
