Milwaukie to renew Photo Radar contract with ACS

That’s how I see it, we’ll know in a few days. The city council will be presented with information to vote on a contract renewal with ACS, the company that processes the tickets for the City of Milwaukie. Chief Jordan’s report recommends to the city council that they renew the expired contract with ACS. The previous contract expired on January 15, 2011. The Chief’s report basically says that accidents are down and we do make over $100k per year; so let’s keep the program going. I have a few questions about the decrease in accidents; were they decreased around the photo radar van when present?  Are accidents decreased in locations where other traffic calming measures are used? Are drivers generally paying more attention and are more careful? That’s me being optimistic.

Kudos to the Chief for saying there are things they can do to mitigate the negative press and mentioning better signage. Hopefully better signage before the van, like Beaverton’s huge reflective signs. Here’s my suggestion, might be a little radical; get rid of photo radar – just sayin’.
